Лайка Laika

In space I float,
escaped from earth
I’m not sure
If I breath –

drift tether-less,
no ship, so suit,
no rocket home,
and then I see her,

bounding in the stars
she wags her tail at me,
and barks,
her sweet small terrier face,
still glad to see a human.

I kiss her nose.

Like Laika
I know.
We have seen things,
Laika and I.

She teaches me
not about space,
but about people.

We play fetch.
She loves to run,
now that she isn’t
in a box.

She sleeps on my feet.
and I sleep
in the stars.
