Her fingers seep

the white sap out

and so she weaves

of her snarled energy

a blanket for December days.

She wraps it round her nights

like a white web,

climbing on its sticky threads

the high trapeze of sleep.

She spins a lover in her mind–

And binds him fast

in miles and miles

of her white-fingered fantasies.
